The Trial and Communion

In this edition, we will go further as we take a look at the Lord’s Supper and the trial of Jesus Christ.

*The Lord Supper* _ Matt 26vs2; vs20-30_

That day was a Thursday, and it was in the evening because it was the same night the Jews arrested Jesus. On that day, Jesus was the one who broke bread. And he told them, this is different from all you have eaten in the past. This bread is my body, and the wine is my blood. He told them the blood is poured out for the forgiveness of sin for many (all humanity).

Jesus also told them that the blood seals the new covenant God is making with humanity. He told them they would all run away that night when the Jews would come to arrest him (Matt 26:31). He equally told them about Judas’ betrayal and Peter’s denial after the meal.

The most important part of this conversation at the table was the blood of the new covenant. Jesus said to the disciples that the new agreement/peace/reconciliation between God and Man (Humanity) can only take place through the blood I am shedding on the cross. If you remember the story of Rahab, the spy told her to tie a red scarlet on her window. The spies assured her that all that is in the house where the scarlet is tied at the window would not perish. It is still the same today. Without being in the blood-bought family (the church of Jesus Christ), God cannot guarantee your safety on earth and eternity.

This is established in Colossians
Colossians 1: 20

God was also pleased to bring everything on earth and in heaven back to himself through Christ. He did this by making peace through Christ’s blood sacrificed on the cross.

According to Ephesians 3:15, there is a church in heaven and on earth, and without being a part of the one earth, you cannot be part of the one on earth.

Apart from this, the blood of Jesus also did the following

1. Eph 2:13 made it clear that the blood brought us near to God.
2. Rev 12:11 Showed that we overcame the Devil by the blood of Jesus
3. I Pet 1:18-19 showed that God bought us with the incorruptible blood of Jesus.

4. I John 1:7&9

But if we live in the light in the same way that God is in the light, we have a relationship with each other. And the blood of his Son Jesus cleanses us from every sin.
God is faithful and reliable. If we confess our sins, he forgives them and cleanses us from everything we’ve done wrong.

This informs us that when those who are already in the light commit sin, it is the same blood that cleanses us from our sin.

The Trial Luke 23

After the meal, Jesus went to pray in the garden of Gethsemane. He was betrayed and arrested there in the middle of the night. The trial of Jesus was a strange one. He was tried under two constitutions (the Jewish/Mosaic law and the Roman law).

While being tried under Jewish law, they did not find a testimony or evidence against him (Matt 26:57-60). So they took him to Pilate, and Pilate told them that Jesus was a Galilean, so Herod had the jurisdiction to try him. Later Herod sent him back to Pilate.

Under the gentile/Roman law, he was not found guilty of any crime (Matt 27:22-25). Pilate intended to release Jesus and made it clear to the Jews that Jesus was not guilty. That was why they shouted in the Matt 27:25

let his blood be upon us and our children.

They admitted that he was not guilty here. They do not mind the consequence of killing a just man. They also brought their unborn children under judgement. Thank God Jesus said in Luke 23:34
father forgive them for they know not what they are doing.

Time will fail me to tell you about more illegalities around this trial notable among them was the proceeding that took place in the night. Yet the Lord Jesus accepted all for our sake.

Under both (Jewish and Gentile) laws, he was not guilty, but he must fulfil the word of God in

Hebrew 2:9

But we Jesus who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour, that by the grace of God should taste death for every man

*Action Point*
If you claim to have a relationship with God and it is not through the blood of Jesus that was shed for many, that relationship will not take you to him in heaven. Reach out to the blood today, and you will be justified
*Say precious blood of Jesus wash my sins away, make me a child of God.
Pray that every injustice done to you should bring you testimony in Jesus name
