What are you eating? Part I by Dr Nathaniel Omilani

Genesis 3:9-11

But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?” He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked, so I hid.” And he said, “Who *told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?

There is a strong relationship between the health of living things and their diet. Looking at malnourished children in the war zone, no one will ask them, “who made you look like this?”. It will be very strange to ask the children, “come for prayers so you can recover.” The solution is to give the children good food that restores their health. Similarly, when a person suffering from diarrhea presents themselves to a physician. The doctor will ask the major question: “what did you eat?”

Everyone is what they eat physically. Besides the man’s body that requires nourishment, the inner man (spirit and soul) needs nourishment. Directly or indirectly, our spiritual being will become what we feed her.

Adam’s spiritual food was the sweet fellowship he had with God daily. This gave him so much spiritual nourishment. Until the day the devil came to the garden, Adam fed on both words of the devil and the forbidden fruit. The bible recorded that Adam was afraid and found out that he was naked. So at the cool of the day, the first question God has him was, WHO TOLD YOU THAT YOU ARE NAKED?

Ordinarily, nakedness is not to be told to anyone but rather a reality one experiences. That question God asked can be asked in this form

Adam, whom have you been talking to lately?

Or

Have you another source of truth apart from me?

Or

Have you another company apart from me?

Next, God asked Adam if he had eaten the fruit that he told him not to eat. We can ask the question in this form,

Have you eaten something which does not support the life I created you to live?

or  God saying

You just ate from a table that destroyed everything we built together over time.

Dwelling on the second question God asked Adam, it is evident that what Adam ate affected his spirit man. Therefore, whatsoever we feed our spiritual life with matters a lot because it determines the state of our entire being.

I am worried about believers who keep the company of Nollywood as a daily dose. Most of the soaps contain dangerous incantations that many of us cannot physically face yet watch them. This is not mentioning the sexual immorality and pornography that gets into our spirit through the door of the eyes in Hollywood and Nollywood movies.

Be Careful

I have also noticed that anytime the storyline of TV drama shows that someone is under a spiritual attack, such is often taken to the wrong places (such as satanists who bath people in rivers for spiritual victory). For example, I have watched in a Drama a prophet give a prophecy that a particular lady carries the virtue of wealth, and anyone who sleeps with her becomes wealthy. This cannot be from God because the basis of a sexual relationship is a marriage built on genuine love.

Over the radio, many programs promote fear. What Adam ate told him he was naked. Indeed what you are allowing into your spirit would eventually become a voice that may say to you godly or ungodly things.

Lately, the slang among the Yoruba is dira which means seek supernatural power for protection against kidnappers and security challenges in Nigeria. Many skit makers latched on to this slang, showing men and women with charms underneath their dresses, including people attending church. A Christian who is well fed will not play into the hands of the devil because the dira slang, that was sent from the corrupt mind to build fear in men.

I don’t need to Dira (seek supernatural protection from the devil) because I have been fed with John 14:23 at a very.

John 14:23

Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

Remember, what you eat becomes a voice speaking to you. The following are the things John 14:23 has said to me over time.

  1. I am sure that I love Jesus, and I am keeping his words.
  2. Based on this, Jesus and God have already made their abode with me.
  3. I have also been fed to realize that Jesus is greater than any power that wants to attack me.

Colossian 1:15-16 describes Jesus as follows:

Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:

For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

This has also become a voice saying to me

  1. Anyone seeking supernatural protection from the devil, seeks the same from either thrones or dominion or principalities or powers. But as for those who are saved the creator of them all abides in us.

Action Point

Tell Jesus to come into your heart if you have not surrendered to him.

Be deliberate about what you feed your spirit.
