The Balance Part Two by Dr Nathaniel Omilani

Among the indicators of equality with God that believers often stress are health and prosperity. I have heard preachers and teachers many times say that New Testament believers should not fall sick. The popular scripture used to back up this assertion is Exodus 15:26

Exodus 15:26

And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.

Regarding perfect health, the ending part of Exodus 15:26 is always the focus. In as much as this article is not intended to downplay divine health which is our heritage as Gods’ children. Rather, it intends to discuss a holistic view of God’s intention concerning our health.

In addition to the wonderful promises of God concerning our health, we must realize that there are conditions which God wants us fulfil in order to enjoy divine health. Therefore, before the ending part of exodus 15:26, the lord gave some conditions.

Among them are:

  1. If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God,
  2. If thou wilt do that which is right in his sight
  3. If thou wilt give ear to his commandments
  4. If thou keep all his statutes.

For example, the voice of God told the Israelite many things about their health afterwards (after exodus 15;26) and notable among them is diet. He told them what to eat and not to eat.

Deut 14:3-4

Thou shalt not eat any abominable thing.   These are the beasts which ye shall eat: the ox, the sheep, and the goat,

Diet determines our health and I must say that God does not want the children of Israel to be healthy but his supernatural power requires them to watch their diet. Here in Deuteronomy 14:3-4 he specified the diets that will make them healthy. In Deuteronomy 12:23 God specifically instructed the Israelites not to eat raw blood.

This instruction of not eating animals’ blood has medical implications because whosoever eats animals’ blood is at risk of diseases. Therefore, the position of this article is that equality with God as far as our health is concerned is not without principles that must not be violated.

  1. Principle of a healthy and nutritious diet. Without obeying this principle, your confession and faith for healing cannot work. Your body needs good food and water. Also, the portion eaten must not be too much or too small. The time of taking the food is also essential. For instance, heavy meals should not be taken at bedtime. Age should also inform us of the proportion. Because as age increases, the rate of digestion slows down.
  2. Principle of Rest.

The psalmist says he that keepeth Israel does not sleep nor slumber (Psalm 121:4-5). God is the keeper of Israel and the only one who can do without sleep. It was reported that God rested on the seventh day after he created heaven and earth. Similarly, Jesus was weary after a long journey and rested at the well (John 4:4). Many teachings against good sleep in the name of hard work must be taken cautiously. You are human therefor, take time to rest and sleep.

  1. The principle of exercise

The Lord wants us to exercise the body. Without doing this, we will not be thoroughly and fully positioned to enjoy the equality that we share with God regarding divine health

I Timothy 4:8

For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.

Bodily exercise profits a little, but that little profit is needed for well-being.

  1. Rejoicing in the Lord

Proverbs 17:22

A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.

This is another factor that affects your well-being. It is very important to ensure that your emotional life is not broken. Devil will bring news and events capable of breaking your spirit your way. Ensure that you maintain a merry heart. You cannot confess scriptures centered on good health from a heart laden with sorrow and depression. You are responsible for making sure that your heart is merry.

Proverbs 15:13

A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart, the spirit is broken

More like this is to take medicine when necessary. Taking medication is not the evidence of lack of faith. All the development breakthroughs throughs in medical science are from God. God is interested in our well-being and has answered many of our prayers related to good health through incredible medical science discoveries. The

  1. Meditation on the Word and Prayer

Ensure that you confess and meditate on the promises of God regarding good health. Then, regularly speak to your body to align with the promises of God. Avoid making a mountain out of minor weaknesses to get time off or empathy. Immediately, your confession to your superior at work says your health is failing, and your body adjusts to the same. In that case, your health starts deteriorating because your being your body can hear.

Conclusion

It is mockery to hold on to a portion of the principles of well being and ignoring others
