The New Addition- Education Round Table
Since the year 2013 when the Festival of Fire commenced, many testimonies had accompanied the week long prayer programme. Usually, participant use the prayer booklet which is in form of a devotional for personal prayers for the first six days of the programme. On the seventh day, we gather for a prayer conference.
The 2022 edition will hold at Lekan Aree Hall, Government College Apata, Ibadan Oyo State Nigeria
The new addition to the one day prayer conference, is the education round table. titled Stop Scamming Yourself; Schooling is not a Scam.
Stop Scamming Yourself; Schooling is not a Scam.
This education round table will hold at the same venue on the 20th of August 2022. It will be a session that will address the need of every emerging adult and youth most especially the yearning for fulfilment in life. We realize that apart from prayers and scriptures, God will want us to learn from the experience of men.
Justification for the roundtable
Years back, the leading motivation for the young to be diligent with their studies was that after schooling, they would get a good job. Recently, a contrary slang among young people now is that school is a scam. The slang came as a result of the experience of many who devoted energy and resources to schooling. They were frustrated because society offered them what they considered a disappointment.
The question is, what is wrong with the current schooling system that made some reference to it as a scam. Nothing is wrong with the school system, but society has changed. A few decades ago, the blue ship’s company visited the university when final year undergraduates wrote their examination for recruitment offers. I learnt that some companies compete for first-class students at that time.
With population explosion and some other factors, this is no longer possible. In 2012, the population of Federal Capital territory was one million, four hundred and six thousand (1,406,239). That same year one million and five hundred thousand (1,500,000) students sat for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). It means that those who wrote UTME that year are more than the population of Abuja. The opportunities available for the product of an old schooling system are limited, yet the system has not changed significantly.
This round table is primarily focused on the following:
- Identify the promise of the current schooling system
- Inform the participants of the opportunities that the current schooling system is not preparing the students for.
- Coping in the entrepreneurial world
- Identify the benefits that are still inherent in the current schooling system
- Take a look at the world of work in the next few years and define the skills required to thrive.
